Your Career¶
And finally we cover topics about your career. This includes your CV, cover letters, interviews, and more. This chapter is about selling your self to businesses and giving them a good reason to hire you.
Note
This is the part of the book that readers have to pay for. The rest of the book is free.
Getting a job in IT isn't guaranteed. This book cannot guarantee you that. Nothing can, in fact. But what you can do is greatly increase your changes of an interview and getting an offer.
This topic covers everything you need to know to increase your chances of getting an interview and then getting an offer. It also covers some things people don't often consider like writing about their experiences, having a GitHub profile to act as a portfolio piece, doing a video explaining what they've studied, and so on. There is a lot more outside of technologies and code that goes into a career in IT. You have to offer companies communication and team working skills too.
Structure¶
Follow this structure to begin telling the world about your capabilities.
- Your Profile
- Portfolio
- Blogging
- vLogging
Each of these items builds up your public profile and allows employers to get a good idea of you as a person. Don't avoid this step. It doesn't matter how uncomfortable it feels to create public facing materials - it's very important.
Next¶
Next we're going to look at mentoring. It's an optional component that helps you study faster and over come problems quickly.
